Captain Bam Bam Injured
For a team like Ecuador, advancing to the second round will take top play, a little luck, and a paucity of injuries. Which is why the news that La Tri captain Ivan “Bam Bam” Hurtado has an injured knee is not well-received. Hurtado will return to Ecuador from Qatar soon, to begin rehabilitation on the joint in question. I really hate to see injuries just before big events, no matter which team is involved. For example, I’m not English or Brazilian, but I was disappointed when Wayne Rooney went out at Euro 2004 and when Ronaldo took his weird turn before the 1998 WC final. You just end up feeling cheated as a viewer. At any rate, Hurtado and his doctors do believe that he will recover in time for the tournament.
