Back At It

Thanks again for your comments and updates while I was away. In the last week or two, Ecuadorian internationals have been busy at the club level.

Most impressivlely, Edison Mendez began his stint with PSV Endhoven. Mendez, in fact, scored twice in his debut with the Dutch champions. As if that wasn’t enough, he played all 90 minutes in PSV’s Champions League draw with Liverpool, and was awarded the UEFA Man of the Match award for his troubles. A very heady start for the midfielder.

Luis Valencia continues his fine showing for Wigan Athletic, nearly scoring several times in his team’s 0-1 loss to league-leading (!) Portsmouth.

Felix Borja opened his account for Greek champions Olympiakos against OFI Crete to keep his team’s perfect record intact.

Finally, I’ll note that Ivan Kaviedes finally landed somewhere–Ecua league leaders Barcelona.

Thanks Leon. It looks like the next friendly will be 10 October 2006, against Brazil, in Barcelona (Espana that is).

If that goes off, it will be a pretty cool match, and one that will garner some attention.

hey trent, did you read what JIK had to say about playing his old team?

http://www.eluniverso.com/2006/09/21/0001/15/B9890270402446029E9968CA2619491C.aspx

he’s not happy unless he’s getting under people’s skin. talking about bleeding blue i bet if he cuts he bleeds brown cos he’s full of $***. he’s a lot more likeable when he’s avoiding the press and has nothing to say. if he’s wearing the barcelona shirt and is on the barcelona payroll he should stop pledging allegiance to other teams.

Yeah, Dar, that’s really weak. How can toreros fans get behind him if he’s throwing that stuff around?

You’re right–the reclusive, quiet JIK is better for all concerned. I suspect he’s somewhat miffed that so many domestic players went en el exterior after the WC, but he actually came home.

i saw it in Hoy newspaper (or diario? one of the dailies) the other day but the date they gave was different. they also said it was set in stone, while futbolecuador doesnt. this is what futbolecuador says:

youre right trent, that’s a good explanation. i bet he wouldnt talk up how good his ex-girlfriend was in front of his present girlfriend but it’s kind of the same thing, except now he’s insulting thousands of barcelona fans.

Is there any more news about the Canada game? I live in Victoria (west coast) and would love to drop in for the weekend.

Are they playing at SkyDome? Are there a lot of Ecuadorians and Colombians in Toronto?

If someone could direct me to the links, I’d appreciate it… and if you are going to the game, I’ll be the one in the yellow shirt (ha ha!)
