A Proud Legacy From This World Cup
Ecuador will be remembered not just for its surprise second-round appearance and masked goal celebrations. I’d say that because articles like this one are still appearing in the world press, more and more people will know what great people play for La Tricolor.
The contents will not be news to most of you, but it’s still nice to see sports reporters from, of all places, the United States, speak in glowing terms about the grounded philanthropy of so many Ecua footballers.
Of course, the writer can’t help taking digs at the England players. Although in fairness, the contrast can be quite stark.
And it’s pretty chilling to hear Edison Mendez say, “I was always hungry as a child. It was as natural as having black skin and playing football.”
